Water Pooling

This is the first major point you should notice. This isn’t the biggest one but it will save you money in the end, if you replace your rain gutters when this starts to happen.

Water pooling is caused when there is clogs that were created in your rain gutters. The clogs can be made up of twigs, leaves and other debris. Because the rain gutters are clogged it can’t release the water in the downspouts. Which makes the rain gutter pool up and eventually overflow. When the pitch is off it also causes the rain gutters to create water pooling. The pitch refers to the angle of which the gutter sits alongside the roof. Best to get this looked at as soon as you can.

A Large Number of cracks, holes or rust spots.

If you only have a few cracks or holes in your rain gutter, you don’t have to replace it right away but if you have over 10 then it would be time for your rain gutters  to be replaced.

Cracks or holes happen from different harsh weather. Having a period of harsh weather takes a toll on your rain gutters. And then causes cracks and holes that have to be replaced because there are too many of them.

Rust spots are made when water and oxygen come into contact with iron. You don’t want too many of these because they eat away your rain gutters, which overtime does quite a bit of damage.

If you start to notice that your exterior paint on your house starts to peel, then this is a big indicator to replace your rain gutters as soon as possible.

When the paint starts to peel it means that there is a gap between your house and your rain gutters. When this is caused it seeps down into the edge of your house siding or your trim. In the end you will have to replace your house siding or your trim. Costing you a good amount of money.

Flooded Basement.

If your basement has flooded then it’s time to give those rain gutters a check.

When water repeatedly flows next to your foundation it causes leaks into the basement of your home. This is a big money spender, when it could have been avoided by the things said above, replacing a whole basement instead of replacing your rain gutters. Which in this case now you have to do both.

I hope that your basement isn’t flooded and you took action when you saw the first points addressed here.

Brown Spots

When you start to notice your grass turning yellow right below your roof, it means it’s time to investigate the reason behind it.

Eroding can be caused from rain gutters that are undersized, clogged, clogged downspout or sump pump pipes, and poor grading around foundation walls.

Check each one of these to see if one of these is the reason behind your eroding landscape. If it I then that means it’s time to invest in your rain gutters but the problem gets out of hand.
